Jaylene Clark Owens is a vibrant and imaginative soul hailing from Harlem, NY and currently residing in the Greater Philadelphia Region. With a flair for embodying characters and a poetic prowess that leaves audiences mesmerized, she has soared to great heights as an AUDELCO and Barrymore Award-winning actress, as well as a highly acclaimed poet. Jaylene's magnetic presence has graced the stage, film, and television, captivating hearts in every performance. On the stage, she has been seen in numerous productions in Philadelphia including WHITE (Theatre Horizon), Red Speedo (Theatre Exile), and her Barrymore award-winning performance in An Octoroon (The Wilma Theater). Recognized for her undeniable talent, Jaylene was honored with the prestigious 2019 F. Otto Haas Award as an Emerging Philadelphia Theatre Artist, solidifying her status as a rising star in the city's vibrant arts scene. On television, you can catch Jaylene in the dazzling role of Rosie, enchanting young minds on the new PBS Kids show, "Albie's Elevator." All of her episodes can be viewed on the Gallery page here. You can also see her in the recurring role of the Clerk on “Law & Order.” Jaylene is the visionary behind the viral sensation, "A Black Girl and Her Braids," a captivating poetic celebration of beauty, identity, and empowerment. This poem is part of her debut EP, “A Black Girl and Her Hair.” Her debut book of poetry, "AfroPoetic," is a true testament to her eloquence and artistry, inviting readers into a world of evocative verses about life as a Black woman in the United States. Her poem, "My Voice, My Choice," from this book, went viral for the way she uniquely, creatively, and powerfully, talks about her experience with code-switching.
